Rituals
It's become a morning ritual for Albert and Elvis to wake me up well before my alarm goes off. You know, because they're STARVING. These two have it down to a science... from the kneading and the head swatting to the constant mewing. Albert is probably the worst. He's puts his wet nose right on my eyelid until I can't take it anymore. I squint into the darkness ready to shoo his furry butt away, but it's too late. He knows I'm up and the meowing turns to howling and the kneading turns to frantic prancing. "Okay," I think. Just get up, feed them and go back to bed. So I do. At 4:30 every morning, I stumble in the dark to the food bowl, trying not to crush Albert as he runs back and forth between my feet. Elvis, never really that hungry in the first place, has curled into the warm spot on the pillow where my head previously rested.
I'm such a sucker.
Edited to add: I just realized that I drew this entire picture with my right hand. I'm left-handed. Can you imagine? I spend so much time on my computer that I don't even know which hand I write with anymore... What does that say about me? Jeeze.

well we KNOW TSB has to get up because of Nimbus - so we just start it early MOL. Or we make so much noise trying to get into the food bag that she wakes up and gets up, like we did to her this morning MOL
Oh my gosh. I am SO glad both of mine are free-grazers. I just top their dry food bowls off when they are low. I never realized how lucky I am . . .
Hehe they have got it just right the pair of little loveable stinkers!!!
Could be worse... My dear departed Merlin used to lick the eye-boogers off my eyes to wake me up. :D
Oh gosh, Q used to do that to me starting at 3:30 am. Sometimes, I was able to hug him and make him calm down before actually getting up.
I had hoped 9 and Chani would be different. They are, but since I've been getting up at 5:30 am, they're used to me doing that and feeding them. Woe to me on the weekends when I can sleep in til 7!
Prepare yourself. I have a 4:30am screecher, tapper, face washer and the time will change in just a few more weeks...that's 3:30 AM! Start ignoring them now to inch them toward 5:30 (or later if that's possible).
BTW--congratulations on learning to be ambidextrous!
and wow, awesome points awarded to you for the drawing with your non-dominant hand!
Spending all that time on the computer is giving you new skills! Yes the time change for the clocks is coming. I get strafed starting around 4am. The Anniecat does runs across the bed and me. And lands on the floor with a loud thud,(sack-o-cat.tm landing that sounds like an elephant falling over). Thought maybe you were saying that Elvis keeps your spot warm for you until you get back in bed. You probably meant he doesn't move when you get back in bed Kate ;D
It's been awhile to have it in a consistent shape or form, but my kitties are back to regularly waking me up. Usually the youngest wakes me up 1/2 hour before my alarm. After my alarm the eldest will come and purr beside me. Both refusing to let me sleep. I'll never be late. Also; doesn't matter when I SET my alarm. That's the sad part.
Your boys are so handsome - I love your blog!
And Melly does the same thing: 15 minutes before my alarm goes off, she does the whole wet-nose-in-face, walking-on-chest thing. If it's the weekend and my alarm is set to go off later, she still wakes me up exactly 15 minutes before the alarm. Annoying little bugger.
I no longer need an alarm clock, his name is Reilly. Body checks, paws up the nose (his are huge like Al's), wet willies and purrs until he sets Miss SPrite off. She of the horrid, off-key yowls to wake the dead...so off I go at 5:30am to open a can of smelly gushy food and stumble to nap on the couch...welcome to the cat world.
In Reilly's defense, he did live with a diabetic cat who was on a stricty feeding schedule for 4 yrs before Gwen passed on...
Linus and Penny used to do the same thing to me, drove me nuts. Luckily they only have one wet food meal a day (dry kibble the rest of the time), so now they get it for dinner instead.
Have you seen the Simon's Cat short videos? This one totally reminded me of your post. And what my cats do to me every morning as well. http://www.simonscat.com/catmando.html
I love your illustration! You should add more drawings.
LOL I loved your drawing! I solved this problem by shutting my bedroom door before I go to bed. :)
Love this. Story of my life, I tell ya.
Actually, the first time I saw this (but didn't have time to comment) I thought... hmmmm... I don't do morning very well. Maybe it's time to put the free-feed bowls up at night and let the guys help me get up!!
