Easter Bonnet Outtakes

Elvis held still for all of 3 seconds. Long enough to take a couple of pictures... umm...

..and that's about it. He is not the Easter bonnet/giraffe hat kind of kitty.

Albert didn't mind it much at first. As long as he could chew on the basket.
When I made him stop, the pouting began. Hence the grumpy picture from yesterday. I'd like to say I felt guilty, but it's a giraffe hat. C'mon! Too freakin'cute.

A Very Happy Meal

I just can't figure out where Albert gets his unhealthy eating habits from...

Good choice, Berty! Stick with the Diet Coke.
P.S. If you click on the top picture you will catch the beginnings of a beautiful stinky face. Enjoy.

The Post Where Privacy Is Vastly Underrated

slit-hp...slii-rp...thh-p...

sltt-hp...thp...slii-ii-ipth..

Elvis: "Al, she's doing it again...she's taking our picture."

Albert: "Sheesh Mom, we're taking a bath. What's a cat got to do to get some privacy once in a while? I'm outta here."

Elvis: "Albert, come back. You only got one ear!"

Current Mood: Aggrivated

Our downstairs neighbor is a bit of an ass character. He plays his music just loud enough that there is a constant bass thud throughout the living room. It bothers me ALL of the time, but for the most part, the cats ignore it. Today he's decided to try his hand at crappy guitar playing and equally horrendous singing. Sorry, singing is too nice of a word. Howling maybe, screeching definately. These pictures have just been snapped and as you can see, Albert, though wincing somewhat, can sleep through anything.

Elvis is not so lucky. He keeps twittering his ears and staring at me as if this is some kind of punishment. As if I am purposely making this horrible noise just to annoy him, you know, because I'm mean and all and withhold food.
UPDATE: the music has stopped. thank you thank you.

Where's the cake?

Elvis: Grr...I'm so hungry. Maybe I'll go get a treat from my stash under the bed. (head turns in all directions) I have to make sure Albert doesn't see.

I must be ver-ry quiet...tip...toe...tip...toe...tip...eek( floor squeaks)...

Elvis holds his breath and looks over his shoulder... Oh no, did he hear that? He starts to exhale..

Albert(races in from behind): Heya Elvis, what're you doing? I thought you were asleep. Why didn't you tell me you were up? Wanna play? Where were you going? Can I come?

Elvis: Stupid squeaky floor boards.

Are you bored yet? Happy 100th post from me and the boys!!!!

Belou

Belou and I were brought together a few days after my father died. She was funny looking. She made me laugh and forget for a moment the complete helplessness that comes from losing a parent. Together we made it through college exams and graduation, my first love and not to long after, my first broken heart, the death of my grandfather, a move that took us from Austin to Seattle and so much more.

When I thought life was so horribly unfair, she was there to represent something better.

Even though her smallness terrified me, she ended up a saving grace and a best friend.

Belou was born with Feline Leukemia and fought it for 8 years. When she got sick I remember praying...and when I felt like that wasn't enough...wishing on stars and making promises to be a better person if only she would get better. I guess she was meant to be somewhere else; a better place I hope.

She passed away one year ago this March. Belou was a fighter until the very end and even then, made sure she hung on until I was strong enough to let her go. She was the only bright spot during some very dark days and I miss her still. So, thank you Belou. I love you.

Food Withdrawl Day 6

The food portioning was going great this weekend. I was in and out for the most part so their pouting had no real effect on me. Until this morning. My lovely dream, wherein Gerard Butler and I were happily living in sin, was horribly interrupted by an icy something poking my eyeball. I squint open to find Albert thisclose to my cornea, sniffing and nudging me with his tiny wet nose. I quickly realize 3 super annoying things. 1) It's 4:30 in the morning, 2) Albert is making stinky face, and 3) Elvis is not in the room.
Let's review:1 is bad because it is way to early to be having the "I'm hungry" conversation with my cat. 2 is annoying because, excuse me, if you don't like my morning breath don't stick your head in my face. 3 is scary because, OH LORDY, what is that cat getting into.

Why put off the inevitable? I struggle out of bed and stumble into the kitchen where I find one huge mess and one very naughty Elvis. The water bowl was completely knocked over and there were various articles of crap(i.e. a neon orange furry mouse and the electric bill) just hanging out in the middle of the puddle getting wet. I swear to everything those two winked at each other, high-fived and then left the kitchen to go jump in my warm bed while I cleaned up the most ridiculous mess ever.

Ok, so maybe they didn't high-five and the winking could have been imagined, but still, I wouldn't put it past these two. I imagine after I go to bed they organize late night huddles in the bath tub, whispering and plotting devious ways to break me.
I.Must.Stay. Strong.

"Oh Waiter..."

The Boys (after finishing their breakfast): "But we're still hungry. Please put more food in the bowl."
Mom: "No way kiddos. Thanks to your loyal blog readers I now know that I should be reading the back of the kitty chow bag for portion size, and let me tell you, you boys eat way too much. No more food this morning."

Albert: "But why would they say such mean things? Do they want us to STARVE?"

Elvis: "Can't you see that our bowls are empty..."

Elvis: "...and we are so cute. Don't you love us anymore?"
Mom: (sigh) You won't starve, yes I love you and you're not eating again until dinner. Now, go play."

Albert: (mocking mom's voice) "No more food, go play." Well I hope she didn't like this chair. I'm about to play with it's innards. scratch...claw...rip

Floof You.

Someone got a tad perturbed when I commented that his brother got all of the floof in the family.

I believe his exact words were "MuR-ooW MEOW!" translation "Are you blind? Look at this chest."

I apologized and Elvis said he would try to forgive me but that my "floof-less" comment had ruined his reputation with the ladies and they didn't love him anymore. I stared at him. He stared at me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!! (breath)HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAH!!!

We laughed because we knew that could never happen and all was forgiven, because, really, who could resist that face, floof or not.

The Strange Tale of the Seal and the Burrito

After a magical meal of kitten chow sprinkled with fairy dust and water mixed with raindrops, the most amazing thing happened...

One cat turned into a seal..

And one turned into a burrito.

HaHa, just kidding. They didn't really turn into foodstuffs and marine animals. I do have a question though. At what point(age) is a kitten still "growing," and at what point is he just considered, ahem!, hefty? Albert is around, I want to say 7.5lbs. Maybe a little less. He likes to eat, but he also likes to play. Elvis is holding steady at around 6lbs, however, he has a longer body, whereas Al is more compact. They don't have another vet appointment for a while so I was just curious if kittens could indeed be big boned?
Other than that, Happy Tuesday ya'll!

Cat Den of Inequity

I put the boys favorite blanket on my bed when we first moved in A) because you all thought it would make them feel more at home, B) it was the first room done, and C) to keep them out of the way.

Albert took to the set-up immediately and I never quite had the heart to move the blanket back out to the couch(EVEN THOUGH it made my bedroom look like some kind of Tarzan porn set).

Little Bert has definitely become the king of the house. My bed has become his throne and I dare not enter without first seeking his royal permission. I see him laying there sometimes, staring at me, and it's almost as if he's saying, "You there. Please fetch me my slippers and a nice glass of Courvoisier."

Oh well. Prince Charming or not, what kitty wants, kitty gets.

The Quiet

This window has been my saving grace. When I need to get things done I whip it open,(it has a screen), and let the magic of the outdoors hypnotize the boys.

They spend hours listening to the different noises and watching the crows take flight.

I love this window the most when the cool breeze flows through and it ruffles their fur and they lift their noses to smell all of the end of winter smells.

Welcome home.

Tuckered...

Oh my gosh. We can finally relax. The move went amazing and except for some unexpected snow, I have no complaints. The boys are adjusting quite well though I can tell the move somewhat messed with their chi. Elvis was backed up for a couple of days but everything is back to normal now. They love the wide open space and are constantly trying to outdo each other by taking the corners at 80 miles per hour. On hardwood floors. At 5 in the morning. I'm sure the jumping, sliding and insane kitty chasing have endeared the boys to whoever is unlucky enough to live below us.
Unpacking continues as we speak but I just had to post this quick story from our first night in the house. So, it was late and the movers had come and gone. I had the bedroom and living room setup by bed time and I was relaxing on the couch. I realized I hadn't fed the kits since that morning and headed to the kitchen, calling for the boys as I went. Albert was hot on my heals and Elvis was just waking up from a warm nap. I saw Elvis stretch and I thought he was following me too. 2 minutes later Albert is chowing down and Elvis is nowhere to be found. Back in the living room, well, you can see what I found. Half in bed, half out. As if he just couldn't decide which was more important, food or sleep. Obviously sleep won.
