To Eat or Not to Eat...That is the Question!

In my hurry to please Mr. Elvis "I step in my poop" Livermore, I mistakenly got the wrong cat food. Not only was it made specifically for seniors, but(GASP) it was the pate. F.Y.I. Elvis hates pate and has been known in the past to fast until the correct sliced form was purchased.

Seeing as how I refused to go back to the grocery store in the rain, I mixed up the pate with warm water and smooshed it into a soupy mess hoping he would believe it was all gravy. I set the food down and nervously waited for his reaction. Please notice the hungry lion look in his eyes. This could end badly.

He sniffed and looked at me disdainfuly, but realizing it was this or nothing, gave it a try. I am pretty sure he wanted to dislike it. At first.

Glory be, after the initial stinky face, he settled in like the crazed kitty he is. (Zoom in on the pic above for some pate on nose action) Crisis averted! This time...

We too have to battle with a finicky eater. I have a 19yo cat. His taste in food changes every couple months. Sometimes we can go months with the same kind of food then one day out of the blue he'll decide that he only wants sliced meat in gravy and all we have are pate. So to make the current "bad" food last till we can make another cat food run, I mix dry food in with the wet. He doesn't seem to mind.

Wondering if you thought of buying RAW diet, such as Nature's Variety. This is 100% either chicken, beef, or lamb (my guess they may like the chicken). Buy it in a two pound sausage-like wrapping and cut what you need. http://www.naturesvariety.com/raw
No by-products..... Better for teeth, too. A supplement may be needed to help digest the food, but the whole idea is amazing.

Never, ever under estimate the power of warm water and pate...chicken stock will also disguise the dreaded texture. Love the "I step in my poop".

phew! I'm so glad that that crisis passed! I was so fortunate with Q, he never was finicky :) 9 and Chani seem to be just fine as long as they get their Avoderm Chicken wet food

Oh, the indignity. You are ruining his rep' with the ladies by feeding him "old man" food -- not to mention telling of his secret middle name! (Which is, by the way, hilarious!)

I read somewhere that cats don't actually recognize differences in their food. I think the article was written by a dog.....MY girls are rather particular. They're SUPPOSED to have dry kibble in big pieces (excellent for the teeth) but -- well -- twice a day they each get 1/8 of a can of yummy wet food. Just a treat. And OH YES, the ladies are VERY pertickler.

Pawsome! We don't eat the pate version neither... but this gives mom ideas.

I love that the enlargement of the last photo shows not only pate on Mr. Elvis' nose, but the fact that his tounge was lapping in the good stuff so fast that it was just a blur despite your snazzy new camera!
